PrimeTurning: a different way to machine tools at Kramp Technical Services

Editorial team|3 minutes to read

At Technical Services, one of Kramp's technical departments, we have introduced a new way of machining: the PrimeTurning concept. What does PrimeTurning involve and how does it differ from conventional turning? We will find out in this article.

What is PrimeTurning?
The PrimeTurning method of machining, including the associated tools, enables 'turning in all directions'. In some applications, this can provide productivity gains of over 50% compared to conventional techniques. This is because PrimeTurning has a small set-up angle and a larger penetration angle, making the chips thinner and wider. In this way, the load is dispersed and the heat of the nose radius dissipated. Some of the advantages of this are:Better cutting data;

  • Longer tool life;
  • No risk of jamming;
  • Better chip control;
  • Productivity increases;
  • Less production downtime for tool changes;
